Frequently Asked Questions

1. How long will it last?
It depends upon the concrete mix, which varies from area to area, and the strength of the concrete, eg. 20 mpa - 50 mpa, but should last from 5 to 10 years for scarifying and many more for grooving.
2. Which is better: grooving or scarifying?
It depends on what areas you are having trouble with. Grooving is recommended in the area leading up to the bales in herringbone dairies where the cows are pushing and turning. It may also be used in the rest of the yard, if the budget allows, as it lasts longer than scarifying but is more expensive.

Scarifying is recommended in the dairy on the platforms because that area can't be grooved both ways in most circumstances. Scarifying gives excellent grip and can be used in all areas of the dairy and yards.

3. Why is the ConText-style of grooving better than normal sawn grooves cut with diamond blades.
ConText's grooves are a v-shape which offers better grip and are easier to wash out as the waste doesn't compact in them as it does with the sawn grooves.
4. What is scarifying?
Scarifying is the name of the process used to give the surface a corrugated finish, which gives excellent grip for your cows and provides them with a much less stressful environment.
